I would like to repeat what my High School football coach once told me. He said that “education is forever”. What we was saying was that we must never stop trying to improve ourselves in the ‘formal’ education process. But he also talked to us about the ‘informal’ education we can receive. Good article. I think that what Nick wrote below is only part of the answer we’re after. Making quick decisions on ‘tactical’ matters is okay because even when a mistake is made, it only has a small impact. Making a quick decision on a ‘strategic’ matter is a whole different issue. When a vote votes for the wrong politicial, no big deal; can be corrected at the next election (tactical issue). When a politician votes for the wrong policy; things are not so okay (strategic issue).

I really like your article but will take exception to one item – “quick decision making”. Sometimes being quick (when the facts are not all in) is exactly the wrong thing to do. As an example, just look at what happened when the US news media jumped all over the Covington HS boys for what they thought were ‘racist’ acts on their part. It turns out the reverse was true. Those who made quick decisions were wrong and now they will pay a heavy price.
Good point Nick. We all must be careful that when we make quick decisions that we have also looked to see that there is not something lurking in the shadows that will upset our actions.
