[December 20, 2013] Leaders are servants of their organization. They are producers of goods and services and of successful employees. They provide for friends, family, and for future generations. Leaders are “actionable” – involved, active, focused, and hard working.
Furthermore, people of character gravitate to those leaders, due to the human affinity with a winner. Leadership, therefore, is self-reinforcing to them.
“Leadership is action not position.” – Donald H. McGannon, Broadcasting Executive
Great leaders are never guided by cynical and self-serving thoughts but by profound humility, courage, and wisdom. This is the distinction between successful leaders and why the “best of the best” leaders are surrounded by the best talent.
Another way to say this is that the successful leader is the lifeblood of a good organization. Making things happen in the organization also reinforces the energy of employees and helps create a positive work environment. Their employees intuitively k now the leader cares about their wellbeing and are respectful of the authority.
It is only through action that leaders measure success for themselves. In today’s volatile, uncertain, and complex world of fast-paced change, only those who are working to get things done – and have the power and focus to make the right choices – can be considered leaders.
Those who fail to act, also fail to adapt and will be left with outdated business models, stilted strategies, and an underwhelming workforce. Nothing is more powerful than a leader willing to lead and this takes action.
The vast majority of individuals are not action people but are simply waiting for that person to take them where their inner fears hold them back.
