[August 4, 2023] U.S. Army General George S. Patton is known as one of America’s greatest leaders. Fortunately, he led much of the WW2 European Theatre effort against the Nazi military machine. What I learned most from reading his speeches and anecdotes from his Soldiers was that the way to be the greatest person you can be is from grabbing a noble goal and making it a part of you. Patton was part of the most noble fight of the human race: World War II.
General Patton said that the most noble of all human acts was to be in an existential fight against a hardened evil. The struggle to win over the greatest of odds, never giving up, fighting even when afraid, never looking back, attacking evil, standing up to the Devil; these are the qualities of a real man, that which pushes us to our limits. But only if we are in pursuit of the most noble of goals.
“Battle is the most magnificent competition in which a human being can indulge. It brings out all that is best; it removes all that is base. All men are afraid in battle. The coward is the one who lets his fear overcome his sense of duty. Duty is the essence of manhood.” – George S. Patton
I’ve often written about the pursuit of noble goals, which is expected of me by readers of this blog. But they also know that the measure of the strength of our character is, at least in part, determined by the goals we pursue and the responsibilities we hold.
What also matters is that our goals are truly noble and are not based on a wicked ideology or a false god. And yet, today, we see this so often displayed in those who follow Marxism and its pernicious allies devoted to socialism and communism or the pursuit of pseudo gods of climate change, abortion on demand, and gender ideology.
Too many of our young have been told to reject the traditions of religion, basic courtesies given to others, respect for diversity of opinion, and freedom of speech. In public classrooms they are told these are old-fashioned and racist/misogynistic/phobic ideas. Nothing could be further from the truth, but the allure of these false goals can never compete with the nobility of following the right path humans have walked since the beginning of humanity.
Do not fear those who worship evil. Pursue those noble goals. Are you part of the noble fight?

Great article.
Excellent article on fear.
David a shepherd boy did not let fear of the Philistines gaint Gailth stop him from standing up for God people. He says how dare you defile my God. With a smoth stone and sling shot slew the gaint Gailth. God has not given us the spirit of fear but of love, power and sound mind.
I love watching the show called Fear Factor. The contents had to overcome their fear with that which they were afraid of. Fear is False Evidence Appears Real.
You are spot on, Eddie. And thanks for your article.
Gen Douglas Sattefield my friend. Excellent job on noble fight. David a shepherd boy did not let fear of the Philistines gaint Gailth stop him from standing up for God people. He says how do you dare defile my God. I come in the name of the Lord. With a smoth stone and sling shot slew the gaint.
A show called Fear Factor the contents had to overcome their fear with that which they were afraid of . Fear is False Evidence Appears Real. Our greatest hindering is Fear.
God haven’t given us the spirit of fear but of love, power and sound mind
If you are a young person today, it will be difficult .. maybe impossible … to sort out the false gods (propaganda and marxist ideologies) from the right pathway. Look at what humans have done since the beginning of humanity and that will give you guideposts to follow. I know that Gen. Satterfield has written on this extensively and in his book “55 Rules for a Good Life” and identified many of those moral paths. And these are HARD to follow and takes considerable energy and effort to stay the course but that is, of course, what makes us better humans. The easy path always takes us places no one in their right mind would want to go. Thanks to Gen. Satterfield for his excellent blog and these daily articles.
Well said, American Girl. ✌
There are people who I would have in my foxhole anytime but there are many politicians who can never make that grade.
“… the allure of these false goals can never compete with the nobility of following the right path humans have walked since the beginning of humanity.” – Gen. Satterfield and he hits a homerun with this.
Very Biblical and very true.
👍👍👍👍👍 The allure will never fade. Education is the answer but not indoctrination that our education system is doing today because that only leads to corruption.
Great quote, says a lot.
“Battle is the most magnificent competition in which a human being can indulge. It brings out all that is best; it removes all that is base. All men are afraid in battle. The coward is the one who lets his fear overcome his sense of duty. Duty is the essence of manhood.” – George S. Patton
As a High School teacher, I constantly talk about future goals because my students don’t understand anything beyond the age of 17 or 18. Too bad their parents are nearsighted.
Sad, but true Mr. TJ Asper. Today’s students are taught to be protesters and to tear down statues and spray paint great works of art. That is how they gain meaning but it is an empty meaning. Many find that out in jail.
Unless they are a Democrat and there is a separate system of justice for them.
Case in point, Hunter Biden and Joe Biden. 👀👀👀
Austistic Techie, that is truly unfortunate and I directly blame BOTH the parents and school teachers for they are teaching weakness and victimhood. That is how they are getting these young people to adopt things like gender identify, get surgery on their bodies before they are even an adult, show up a BLM and antifa rallies, and generally work to tear down the “system.” Of course, they have no solutions for what to substitute for what they tear down and frankly, IMHO, they don’t care …. and there in lies the main problem.
Another spot-on article from the mind of Gen. Satterfield and one this time on a subject we can all get behind. The problem is that too many people are distracted by goals that are evil but are dressed up in moral superior words. They fall for those goals and later find they have backed the Devil. Then what do they do? Suicide!
Joey, you got that right.
God Bless General Satterfield
Wow, excellent idea about the ‘noble fight.’ I would add that there are NOBLE GOALs to be pursued and the “fight” is just a subset of them. Pick a noble goal and make it quick for that is how you have real meaning in your life. And don’t be dogged down by the feel good ideologies of the time that substitute for real noble goals and fights.
Excellent points MAXIMUS. And, Gen. Satterfield gives a similar warning to our youth who are quick to adapt to false gods (fads and fashions) that are gone in a flash and leaves them wanting and humiliated. That happens far too often.
Maximus, if you read Gen. Satterfield’s “55 Rules for a Good Life” you will see these goals there:
