[March 21, 2025] During my last assignment as the 8th U.S. Army wartime engineer, I was highly impressed by our commander, Lt. Gen. John Johnson, because he could take complex ideas and explain them. That is also why I like Dr. Dennis Prager. As he writes in an article from 2023, he was asked to define Leftism.
As he tells this story, an audience member asked him, after a speech, “What is Leftism?” The question is simple, and one we might think is fully studied and answered. But it is rare, and no one seems to be offering answers.
Dr. Prager first makes the distinction between Leftism and Liberalism. Liberals, he says, do not believe in racial segregation, whereas the Left does. Liberals don’t believe that males should be allowed to compete in women’s sports; only Leftists do.

Here is where Dr. Prager hits us between the eyes. Leftism, he writes, “is the attempt to destroy the past – every value and every institution, the good as well as what it regards as the bad.”
This is why Leftists hate conservatism. Conservatism seeks to conserve the best from the past. The left seeks to destroy the past, including the best.
“The Left destroys everything it touches. Whatever its noble-sounding rhetoric, the Left stands for nothing and, therefore, builds nothing (other than state power). Aside from state power, it only destroys.” – ibid
As he so clearly notes, the Left is destroying universities, high schools, and elementary schools. It is destroying science in medical schools. And it is destroying the nuclear family. It does this by substituting class and race for moral ones.
The Left destroys everything it touches, and that way of doing things is not a byproduct of Leftism but its aim.

Journalists were once highly respected. Unless a piece was listed as “opinion,” people generally believed they were getting, to the best of a journalist’s ability, as truthful a report as possible — “just the facts.” Today, on virtually any controversial issue, they are getting opinions, not the truth. The purpose of nearly every major newspaper and other “news” outlet is the same purpose Pravda had in the Soviet Union: to transmit the Democrat Party line. So, are they the new lapdogs of America?
