Flag Day 2014

By | June 14, 2014

[June 14, 2014] Flag Day 2014. If a person ever had a split second to do something great, it would be a moment we certainly would never forget. That was the case in 1976 during a baseball game between the Chicago Cubs and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Rick Monday, Senior-Executive-Leadershipthe Cubs’ center fielder, rescued the American flag seconds before it was to be burned by two protesters who had run onto the field. Rick Monday intercepted the flag from the two men who were planning to burn the cloth. The protesters were left empty handed. See it for yourself here (youtube link).

Today is Flag Day and a day to remember Old Glory. Today commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States that happened on this day in 1777 by resolution of the Continental Congress. Everyone is urged to voluntarily fly the flag in honor of this time and in respect to the flag and our nation.

The U.S. Army also celebrates its birthday on this date. Happy birthday to the U.S. Army which was officially formed this date in 1775.
