What will be the Hot Leadership Topics of 2016?

By | January 19, 2016

[January 19, 2016]  Annually it’s a tradition to make forecasts for the New Year and to anticipate what topics will be at the top of everyone’s list to discuss.  Last year it was Islamic terrorism and illegal immigration.  This year 2016 will bring a few surprises but some will be easily guessed.

The biggest news for the U.S. will be the presidential election which takes place later in the year.  What are the biggest topics of discussion and debate?  Here is my prediction broken down into major categories.  Last year’s predictions can be found here.1

Politics and Diplomacy:

  • The U.S. presidential election
  • Islamic terrorism
  • The Middle East and strategies to contain problems there
  • Illegal Immigration
  • Police and community relations

Economics and Business:

  • Worsening world economic conditions
  • Disparity between the rich and the poor
  • Energy and its costs, including the debate over climate change

Military:

  • Tactics and Strategies to defeat terrorism
  • Leadership failures and investigations
  • Dwindling conventional military capabilities
  • The spread of advanced and deadly technologies, like nuclear weapons

… and here are a few that I don’t believe will be as big an issue but nonetheless important:

  • The ongoing investigation of the U.S. response to Benghazi
  • Hillary Clinton’s misuse of classified information
  • The Sunni-Shia conflict
