Hurricane Helene: Failure of Presidential Leadership

By | October 6, 2024

[October 6, 2024]  Residents struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene on the Southeast Coast of America are being told to “fend for themselves.”  We are now hearing that FEMA does not have enough funds to help.  Numerous residents, especially in rural areas of North Carolina have reported they have not seen anyone from FEMA or the Red Cross.

“We haven’t seen FEMA, we haven’t seen the Red Cross.  Most people drive through with their cameras out, filming us like we’re animals in a zoo, and don’t stop.” – North Carolina resident on Fox News, report from October 5, 2024

Another resident claimed it took FEMA “five days to get here.  It’s disgraceful.”  Americans are crying out for assistance.  President Joe Biden had a different take on the hurricane disaster relief.  The following is what he said after stepping off his Marine One Helicopter from a visit to the disaster area:

“What storm zone?  I didn’t know which storm you were talking about.  They’re getting everything they need.  And they’re very happy across the board.  We just gotta keep – I have to go back to Congress to get some more money.” – President Joe Biden being questioned by a reporter after visiting the devastation of Hurricane Helene

His inaction is a failure of presidential leadership if you have people still dying several days after the hurricane.  Supplies cannot get into critical areas, and now we have private citizens mounting rescues using their own helicopters, boats, trucks and trailers and doing what they can to help.

The Founders of our nation created a presidency so that one person could quickly act to bring resources to bear in a moment of crisis with speed, decision and energy.  And our system is designed to hold that person accountable.  We don’t see this in President Biden or the actions of VP Harris.

I have to legitimately ask, “Who is in charge of the disaster response?”  We all know that President Joe Biden is not all there mentally.  So it has to be VP Kamala Harris who now must step up to provide that leadership.  But where was she over these past few days?  She was hobnobbing with Hollywood actors and donors in California and other West Coast states.

The inaction of the president is breathtaking.  I’ve never seen such an inept response from the Federal Government to bring relief to those most in need.  And yet, there appears to be a deliberate attempt by the government to exclude rural counties because “they vote Republican.”  Several have made that accusation, and it is disgusting to think this would happen today.

This situation is the perfect opportunity for Kamala Harris to show that she can provide the leadership needed to overcome the problems of the catastrophic failure of FEMA.  Can she do it?  I think that if anything is done to help those affected by the hurricane, it will have nothing to do with our president, vice president, or FEMA.

It has been more than a week since Helene hit, and so far, she has failed this most crucial test of leadership.

Gen. Satterfield, I think that most real Americans are finally coming to the realization that this Biden-Harris administration is totally inept when it comes to doing anything difficult or complex. They fall apart, and what makes this all worse, is that the media is running cover for them and they know it. So it makes it easier to escape the consequences of their failures. Articles like yours is good because it helps raise awareness and the hundreds of other stories put out across America and the world. But the big media companies are suppressing the information and our government is trying to keep ordinary citizens from reporting what is going on; just like Communist China. Well, Joe Biden didn’t get to be the “big guy” and get millions of dollars from China without having to pay for it somehow. And now Joe Biden is sunning himself on the beach and Kamala is cackling and reading off a prepared script. New meme ….. 32, yeah 32 … 32 days …. 32 is the new mantra …. 32 … 32.

The tardy, callous, and insouciant response of the Biden-Harris administration recalled the famous New York Daily News headline from 1975: “Ford to City: Drop Dead.” “Drop Dead” was certainly the animating spirit for the lack of action by the Biden-Harris administration in the face of the tremendous suffering of Americans in those states.

Private operations have become necessary due to the lackluster, and at times nonexistent, response to the disaster by the federal government. Residents in states that were hit by the storm, including Georgia and North Carolina, have said that they have not seen any response from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Red Cross, or any other organizations or agencies that are supposed to help. Good Samaritans have resorted to using private helicopters and drones to locate or evacuate stranded residents.

That’s a fact and sad too. Just when we need the federal government to step in, all they are doing is prohibiting private citizens from filling the gaps in what our govt cannot any longer do. Shame of FEMA.

DHS SecrAlejandro Mayorkas, who oversees FEMA, was forced to admit in recent remarks that “we do not have the funds” to provide relief or evacuation efforts. This revelation has led to widespread criticism, including from governors in the impacted states.

Biden spent the money on illegal immigrants, giving them free luxury hotel accommodations, free credit cards, free phones, free food, and in many occasions a fast-track to citizenship and more free stuff like sex change operations if they want them. yep, look who’s being crazy here. And all the time, many homeless veterans remain on the streets outside these hotels.

OUCH, a big takedown by Gen. Satterfield on our senior political leadership. And …. wait for it …. he is right to do so. The failure of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and FEMA is breathtaking.
