Is the Associated Press Morally Bankrupt?

[May 19, 2021]  The Associated Press – a prominent American news agency providing “news reports” – has itself been the subject of mockery since its reporters were exposed acting as Hamas propagandists.  This is certainly not the first time this organization acted in such a manner with other brutal regimes.

The organization collaborated with the Nazis during WWII.  A paper by the German historian Harriet Scharnberg, titled “The A and P of Propaganda” and published in Studies in Contemporary History, makes the case the beginning in the mid-1930s, the AP’s photo office in Germany made compromise after compromise to keep reporting under Nazi rule.1  The thumbnail to this article is taken from a photograph of AP Berlin bureau chief Louis P. Lochner.

On May 10th, Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip fired rockets toward Jerusalem in a significant escalation of violence.  As of this writing, more than 3,000 rockets were fired to kill civilians.  Like the old days of Nazi Germany, the AP has been collaborating with evil.  Are they morally bankrupt?  Yes, in any meaningful definition of the concept, they are evil and should never be trusted.

National Review’s David Harsanyi states in his column that, among other things, “The news agency has a long, shameful record of regurgitating the [Hamas] terror group’s lies.”2  He goes on to say that violence in this region only gets traction when Israeli Defense Forces strike.  And, the story exploded after the IDF destroyed a 12-story high-rise in Gaza that housed foreign press outlets, including the AP.  Israeli leaders called ahead to warn those inside, so no journalists were killed.

Was Hamas using these reporters as human shields?  Most likely, yes.  Hamas regularly uses civilians in hospitals, schools, and neighborhoods as human shields when they fire their rocket launchers nearby.  Former AP reporter Matti Friedman states that Hamas threatens those who expose the terror regime’s murder and abuse of civilians.  It demands and gets obedience in exchange for coverage.  The same when AP operated as a propaganda arm of Nazi Germany.

In a deep dive into the professional journalist ethical standards, Richard Behar, in an article in Forbes, found that the well-known media repeat AP’s false claim of casualty rates of Gaza civilians.  This includes the BBC, CNN, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, etc.  The exposure of the massive ethical lapses of AP reports and leaders has primarily remained a non-story in the media world.

News reporting by the AP specifically, including the news media of all Western nations, are suspect.  As my wife says, “they lie.”  Very straightforward.

Excellent, “pound the crap out of them.” We need more real men like Senator Cotton.

“They lie.” Good thinking but, as Qassim wrote, we must DO SOMETHING. Whining gets us nowhere.

We can all complain all day long and expose the unethical and immoral behavior of journalists and their brethren on social media all day long and nothing will come of it. We must do more. This means when we see inaccuracies, we must respond with the truth. We must write articles to their boss/papers (even if not published) so that they get clear, precise feedback about their degrading of ethical standards. Never let them get away with it.

There are NO ETHICAL STANDARDS for journalists.

Preamble: Members of the Society of Professional Journalists believe that public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. Ethical journalism strives to ensure the free exchange of information that is accurate, fair and thorough. An ethical journalist acts with integrity. “Public enlightenment,” now that’s a real clear idea.

The AP and other press organs have no idea that they are an evil of the world and that they are just a pimple on the leg of society.

The info here has been out for a few days. I found it interesting that the AP is calling for an international investigation of Israel for their attacks on the “Palestinian peoples.” Now that is ripe. The AP, who is in bed with terrorists who launched more than 3,500 rockets into civilian areas of Israel, is calling for an investigation into Israel. Why don’t they realize that indiscriminate targeting of civilians is a war crime?

Because the AP is morally and intellectually corrupt. Why don’t universities who train these dopes come out and say something that the basic elements of fairness are being violated?” Not to mention the outright lies being perpetuated on us.

Gen. Satterfield discusses this at length in several articles. Thanks Dern. I am with you on this one.

The news media (all forms) has been anti military for a long time. Just look at how they are reacting to the Israeli Defense Force. Any nation using its military to defend itself, that is not communist, comes into their gun sites.

And you would not expect anything else from the US news media outlets. They are anti-American thru and thru.

I agree but think that their philosophy of nihilism is the result of wanting to get to the heart of America as a corrupt nation. They want to be awarded a prize for discovering evil in America but guess what, they are the evil (and they will never admit it and some will never know it).

Well said. I have never trusted the media since Walter Cronkite said we lost the Tet Offensive when obviously North Vietnamese got hammered hard.

No surprise to me. I read a lot of their articles and can see their ‘bias’ all the way. Thanks Gen. Satterfield for you highlighting them in your articles.
