Meaning of the Trump-Zelenskyy Blow Up

By | March 2, 2025

[March 2, 2025]  The big news these past couple of days was the unexpected Trump-Zelenskyy blow up at the White House. Everyone believed the purpose of Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy being there was to sign a deal promising U.S. access to certain minerals in exchange for America’s support in its war with Russia. But, what is the meaning of this blow up?

Was the meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy a setup in advance, an ambush, or a spontaneous response to Zelenskyy’s unwillingness to agree to a ceasefire?  Trump has been clear. He promised to end the war and he is playing hardball to get the deal done. Zelenskyy played his hand wrong in front of Trump by disrespecting America. Trump would have nothing of it.

This very public shouting match served the purpose of neither America nor Ukraine. For the past three years, Zelenskyy has been treated as a hero and given unaccounted for billions of dollars by the Biden Administration. Now we see Zelenskyy in his raw form. The nastiness, pettiness, and insults of Zelenskyy are legendary and served him only to lose support – for now – of the support of American people to help him propagate his war with Russia.

I believe that Zelenskyy was not ready to meet Trump. Trump is a master negotiator with skills that are better than the average American can even understand. Trump sees into the future and knows what he can settle on but always goes for the biggest advantage.

President Trump has to have a ceasefire and it looks like he can get Russia’s Putin to agree. Trump knows the first step to ending the war is a ceasefire. Right now both sides in this war have fought the other to a standstill. Both Putin and Zelenskyy have everything to lose and little to gain. Both would gain an advantage with their citizens by a ceasefire. Trump is playing hardball with them both.

Zelenskyy cannot yet see that he will get very little support from the West, especially Europe and despite their empty promises. He fails to convince us that he’s fighting Russia for us, an old, discredited argument – we live an ocean away. He is not going to get NATO membership, period. And he is yet to realize Trump is not a pushover like Joe Biden.

Zelenskyy has little choice but to get the support of the U.S.  This means signing a deal on the minerals. That’s what Trump has offered. Zelenskyy will need to swallow his big ego and return to the White House and agree to Trump’s deal. If Ukraine ultimately alienates the U.S., then there is no reasonable backup plan and Zelenskyy knows Putin knows this and Ukrainians will go on dying for a future no one wants.

“President Donald Trump and Vice-President J.D. Vance mopped the floor with the hapless Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in the full view of the American public, to the horror of the diplomats who have lied about the Ukraine war from the outset.” — David P. Goldman on X yesterday

And now, the world gets a peak at the dirty business of war and peace.  The blow up means we are going to see Zelenskyy soon come crawling back to Trump for a deal.  All the typical Left-wingers are going to blow a gasket when it happens.

What the hell is the matter with Ukrainian Pres Zelenski? Is he nuts? He comes to America and insults the President and VP on national television. Well, that’s not going to work out well for him. And what about the minerals deal? As I predicted immediately after The Episode occurred on Friday, the (rare earth minerals) deal will still happen, but now it will be at least 25% more to OUR advantage. Tuesday night will be a big indicator of how Trump handles the issue in his speech to Congress. Let’s ee how this all will work out. Not good for Ukraine (except they will get weapons from America) but good for America.

Well, the news out just now (about 11 am) is that Zelensky has announced that he is willing to sign the minerals agreement, but “just wants the Ukrainian position to be heard.” I think we’ve heard it, and this is looking right now like yet another win for Trump.

A really big win for Trump, and more critically for Americans.

Historian Victor Davis Hanson nails it with this tidbit:
“Zelenskyy must know that all of the once deal-stopping issues to peace have been de facto settled: Ukraine is now better armed than most NATO nations, but will not be in NATO; and no president has or will ever supply Ukraine with the armed wherewithal to take back the Donbass and Crimea. So, the only two issues are a) how far will Putin be willing to withdraw to his 2022 borders and b) how will he be deterred? The first is answered by a commercial sector/tripwire, joint Ukrainian-US-Europe resource development corridor in Eastern Ukraine, coupled with a Korea-like DMZ; the second by the fact that Putin unlike his 2008 and 2014 invasions has now lost a million dead and wounded to a Ukraine that will remain thusly armed.”

Yep-per, nothing like a feud between friends. But, are they friends? Zelensky made a HUGE mistake backing Pres. Biden then that dip-crazy Harris over Trump. He took the risk and lost. This is why you don’t meddle in American elections as a foreigner. All the media had the world thing Kamala Harris was going to win, but the American people knew otherwise.

Great comment about Zelenskyy who was hoodwinked into thinking he had an open checkbook with a second Biden-Harris term. He could push them around and then assumed he could do the same with Donald Trump. Wow, was he wrong.

France and the UK are working a peace treaty for Trump to present. That tells me that without the US, Ukraine is a lost cause. Sure they’re making noises about stationing troops in Ukraine, but ultimately, they need the US to close the deal.
