[December 25, 2015] Merry Christmas to everyone from me and all my family. One of the most popular holy days on the Christian calendar, Christmas honors the birth of Jesus. Rarely does even the most difficult days of our lives prevent the dedicated from setting aside time to honor Him. My uncle was part of the Battle of the Bulge on this date in 1944 and was wounded in the defense of Bastogne. When I was a child, he told me about his buddies and how they set up a small tree, decorated it, and prayed.
To all those who spent time in combat on Christmas Day, they have my sincere gratitude and thanks. My uncle passed away several years ago and yet his buddies told me that they never forgot what he did for them on that day to remind everyone to honor the birth of Jesus. Many fond memories, many memories of terror … each had a tidbit of history for those days they fought off a determined German elements of the 2nd Panzer Division.
Oh, they enjoyed a few cookies from my grandmother (his mother) on Christmas Day. Despite being crushed those cookies never tasted so good, I’m told. As a treat, here is a link to an Italian cookie website that is my personal favorite: http://allrecipes.com/recipes/14707/desserts/cookies/international-cookies/italy/
