Military Disarmament is a “Moral Obligation”

By | March 6, 2024

[March 6, 2024]  Word from Roman Catholic Pope Francis this past Sunday that military disarmament is not optional but a “moral obligation” for all countries.  Earlier, the Pope suggested that if we are serious about world peace, the solution is to “ban all weapons.”

“The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either — but right through every human heart — and through all human hearts.” – Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago.

Solzhenitsyn knew it was impossible to find evil people out there committing evil deeds, separate them from the rest of us, and destroy them.  As he correctly states, the dividing line between evil and good cuts through the heart of every human being.  The Bible is clear about this; thus, Biblical texts are such great wisdom because they give us a way out of this intractable problem through faith.

Pope Francis has forgotten the lessons of the past.  Banning all weapons is a delusion because it will not create the desired outcome.  I assume that peace is what Pope Francis envisions.  He goes on to note that humanity lives “in fear of war,” and the only way to stop this fear is to ban weapons.  Francis is the only Pope ever to declare that not only the use of nuclear weapons but their mere possession is immoral.

The backlash to this declaration has been quick and brutal.  Here is one that has a common theme.

“The Pope is guarded by armed men.  The Vatican is one of the most heavily fortified places in the world.  Walls behind walls kind of stuff.  He is the LAST PERSON who should be talking about disarmament.” – 10thGeneration American

We can all understand that the Catholic Church criticizes the arms race and the buildup of nuclear weapons.  But the proposal by Pope Francis to ban all weapons is folly at its finest.  To state that it is a moral obligation is simply wrong.  Some leaders and countries cannot and should not be trusted.  We can start with Hamas, Hezbollah, China, North Korea, Russia, and Venezuela.

Imagine what would happen today if the United States gave up all its weapons.  We would immediately have a world no one would want to experience.  I’m reluctant to call Pope Francis a fool like so many have done over the past few days, but he should be more careful with his words.

Excellent. Too bad this is happening. I appreciate the exposure of such ignorant ideas. I know that the Pope means well but the damage can and will be immense. Let’s not fall into the same trap that so many of our senior leaders fall into by not “seeing” what is really happening in the world.

I agree with you on the comments. We can’t ban weapons that give us an opportunity to keep us safe and help us in negotiations with our foe countries.

OUCH. Great article exposing a woke Pope. This is sad. The reason is that people take his words to heart and will risk their lives trying to follow it.

Gen. Satterfield, thank you for bringing this up. An excellent time to begin discussions, as you have done. Let us not get hung up with Pope Francis. Everyone knows he is the WOKE Pope and is just to be tolerated and listened to but not taken too seriously. That is the best way of dealing with those who live in a fantasy and have zero knowledge of history or a poor understand of the meaning of key passages in the Bible. That is very hard for me to write because I am a devout Catholic. But we must not move into a land that invites our own suicide. Pope Francis is “wishing” it was this way, and I think he knows that it is impractical.

Anybody heard from Mr. Eddie Gilliam lately? I miss his insights. I would like to hear what he has to say. Too many here are hammering on Pope Francis. Maybe his words were taken out of context. Just a thought.

This sums it up pretty well. Don’t turn your back on evil, else you may become headless.

The pope should disarm his Swiss Guards and see how that works out. Come on now Pope, double standards don’t look good on you.

When did Jesus preach that the Roman Army should disband? I remember God helped the Jews ” smite their enemies”. Does the Pope claim higher authority than God himself?

Pope Francis is OUT OF TOUCH. The disciples carried swords. Not as violent men. They were travelers, after all, and lived in a world of thieves and cutthroats. Jesus mentions their swords, and encourages them to have them ready. How do you think Simon Peter cut off a guy’s ear? Jesus was a man of peace, with much to say about love and getting along, urging us to turn the other cheek, etc. but he never said to get rid of all weapons and trust that everyone will treat us fairly. The Pope doesn’t know his Bible. Let’s dive into 📖🙏

Gen. Satterfield has done us a small favor here by exposing the Catholic Pope as someone who puts his “compassion for others” ahead of reality. Look around at the entirety of human history, all cultures, all times, all places. The weak survive because of the strong are protecting them, not because there are no weapons. Come on, Pope Francis, say something that is actually helpful.

Of course, I would expect this from Gen. S. because he is a hard-core pragmatist. He has that personality and I’m sure psychologists would agree. I would think also that he has the kind of personality that is perfect for the military – use what works because it works. Innovative? I’m not so sure. Lacking compassion? Yep.

Commie Red, been a long time since we’ve had you in our forum. Welcome back. I don’t think you’ve made a convincing argument about Gen. Satterfield. He is actually making a common sense article about reality. If you want to have peace, then your argument, I assume since you didn’t write it, is to disarm and remove all weapons. But you fail to know or understand history. Those who are weak are always – read that as always – are destroyed by the strong. Weapons even the playing field. Remember back to grade school when you were a wimp and the bigger boys picked on you. That explains your attitude and it is obvious you didn’t learn any thing from those experiences.

I don’t think feeding the troll commie red, the hardcore communist and following a discredited ideology, should be met with any kind of logic because it is wasted on him.

Come on, Commie Red, you’ve got to do better than just throw words on the screen. And whose to say that Gen. Satterfield is not innovative? Hummm? He has this website and two great books under his belt. He has proven this.

Great follow-on from yesterday’s “Is the Bible True”. Thank you, Gen. Satterfield for bringing commonsense to the West. We certainly need every bit we can find. 😜
