[March 12, 2025] People tell me all the time, “Relax, it’s just a dog.” They tell me to “take it easy” and not to worry myself because my dog is just an dog without a soul or, without us, of little value. But, she’s my dog, Bella Rosa, named by my Italian wife and with me liking the name.
What those people do not realize is that in her ten years of life, my wife and I have been with her nearly 24/7: walks, potty training, emergency vet visits, and long drives across the country. We look forward to more years of companionship, a friendly wag of her tail and staring at me with those puppy eyes. My wife and I do our best to be good to her, for the act of goodness to animals is certainly one of God’s laws.
“The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.” — Proverbs 12:10, NIV

Bella Rosa
Today is Bella’s official birthday. She has been a part of our household since she was eight weeks old when we picked her up and said goodbye to her mother and father. She was a sickly puppy, later determined to have worms and severely dehydrated. After treatment, she grew strong and became a full member of our household.
I know of an older man whose dog passed away. He was distraught, and he would later pass away by his own hand. He loved that dog. Dogs have been part of human existence since man first walked the earth. We are connected through our history and close social bonds, and that is something we all can call “good.”

Please read my books:
Gen. Satterfield, from one dog love to another, THANKS for your dog article.
Pray for those who have a good dog and who takes care of them like a family member.
I love dogs. Really? Yes, I love dogs.

Good Dog, I would have never guessed. Talk to your dog frequently, using a high cheerful voice. Give them lots of belly rubs and ear scratches, and maintain a consistent routine by feeding, playing, and walking them around the same time each day. Reward good behaviors with treats and praise, and teach them new tricks to keep them stimulated. That’s how you can show your love to your dogs.
Good Dog and Rowen, I do think there are many ways we can show our love for our dogs. But the point, Gen. Satterfield is making is that our relationship with dogs goes back way before you and I were born and will continue long after. Get a dog. Treat you dog properly. And the main point for me … get a dog. Some great pictures of dogs here.

Yeah, me too, Good Dog. ❤❤❤❤❤
Well said, Gen. S. Thank you for reminding us of one of our most important and needed social bonds.
“ [November 19, 2024] Old dogs leave footprints on our souls. There is nothing better in our lives than your pet dogs, and our time with them are measured not by years on a calendar but by those times we are together. I grew up with pets and continue to have them as companions.” — Gen. Doug Satterfield and not that long ago showing us that our “connections” with dogs is to both our betterment.
Indeed that is so true. Thanks Judy for reminding us of an earlier article about dogs. And there are others too:
