Senior Leader: Egypt’s President

By | January 10, 2015

[January 10, 2015] Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi has stepped forward to become one of the world’s most important senior leaders. What he has been saying and doing is the epitome of real leadership at the highest level. El-Sisi is Muslim and yet works to unify both Christian and Muslims, and also to improve stability in the region.

He recently became the first Egyptian president to visit a Coptic Christmas Mass.1 He condemns terrorism in all its forms against the innocent and against the state. He openly admits to a serious problem with those who use Islam as a religion for destruction. He gave one of the most profound comments on the need for a “religious revolution” in Islam. In this speech to Islamic clerics at Al-Azhar University last month he said that the departure from the sacred texts and ideas of Islam over the years is antagonizing the entire world.2

“It’s inconceivable that the thinking that we hold most sacred should cause the entire umma [the Islamic world] to be a source of anxiety, danger, killing and destruction for the rest of the world.” – Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi

Solutions for radical Muslim terrorism and economic stagnation lie entirely within the nations of Islam. He goes on to note that the Islamic world is being torn, destroyed, and lost – and “it is being lost by our own hands.”

We need to remember that it was El-Sisi who led the ouster of Mohamed Morsy the Islamist who aligned himself with the Muslim Brotherhood and assumed power not given to the president. This action was widely criticized in the Western world but was exactly what Egypt and the region needed.

These are not the actions or words of someone who is timid but of a real leader. We will be hearing more from him. If you get the chance to listen to any of his speeches, it is worth the time.
