[January 18, 2020] Now that 2020 is under way, there are many goals and resolutions you should focus on in order to drive your business forward, but it’s also important to remember that successful leaders know how to prioritize their objectives – which ones deserve their attention right now, and which ones they can push back. Needless to say, you can’t hope to invest in all goals at the same time, so here is a curated list of the top business resolutions you should focus on in 2020.
Make your brand more trustworthy
Nowadays, long-term business success primarily depends on a leader’s ability to build a trustworthy brand. Firstly, focus on incentivizing user-generated content across the online world. Prioritize 1st and 3rd party reviews on your site and other prominent platforms like Google and Yelp. Next, be sure to stay consistent with your brand’s personality and tone of voice across all marketing and communications channels – including social media. And speaking of, use your social media presence to engage with your customers and followers in conversation, and focus on your success stories to boost trust.
Capitalize on content creation
If there’s anything you should invest in 2020, then it should be to deliver a better content strategy to your customers. As a leader, it’s imperative that you always stay on top of the latest trends, and optimize your content strategy to appeal to your customers and online audience. Currently, modern customers are looking for visual content that is informative, engaging, and tells a compelling story – like infographics.
Infographics have become wildly successful in recent years, especially since expert agencies such as Infostarters that focus on weaving the brand and its visuals into the infographic have entered the scene. Now, with your guidance and your vision, you can help your in-house team create visual content that is imbued with your brand’s essence.
Following the examples set by forward-looking agencies, you will be able to innovate and improve your approach to content creation and thus elevate your brand’s authority and trust, and improve the company’s visibility in the oversaturated online world. This will give you a direct competitive advantage.
Build a thriving company culture
Another crucial goal you need to note down is to help build a thriving company culture in your ranks. Keep in mind that the modern employee will have no problem leaving your company the second they start to think that their talents are being wasted, or if they start feeling underappreciated, or if they think that you’re abusing your power as a leader.
If you want to boost employee retention, you will need to be a kind and compassionate leader, and you will need to put the needs of your employees first. Be the boss, but be their friend as well, acknowledge the individual, and guide your employees towards success.
Wrapping up
As a leader, you might find yourself a bit overwhelmed every time the new year begins. The important thing is to prioritize your business goals, cut the clutter out of your schedule, and create a concrete plan of attack. Combine these resolutions and you will have created an all-encompassing strategy that will take your brand forward as a whole.
Thank you so much, I am really glad you like this post 🙂 I am so grateful to Doug who has given me the opportunity to write things from my perspective. I think that the most important thing is to implement user-generated content because this is something that people value more than ever, and aside from that to nurture talented employees.
Nice blog post, Sophia. Much to think about, so thanks!
Yes, well done! General Satterfield has allowed a number of guest bloggers to show their ability to make an argument and support it.
Enjoyed your article, thanks!
Good job, Sophia. Regular readers here at this leadership website by Gen. Satterfield like to read different perspectives and see how others in the field of leadership are thinking; the new ideas rolling around and the new technology that makes leadership a tiny bit better. Well done, keep up the good works. ?
Yep, you said it Greg. Appreciate articles like this, especially on the weekend when I have more time to think them over. Good links in her blog post too.
“Building a trustworthy” brand. POW, right on target. How to do that is not easy, yet can be done.
Hi Sophia. I like your article; to the point and straightforward. I will nitpick a little and note that ‘infographics’, while important, is not really that important as other things like caring for your employees thru training, pay/benefits, safety, etc. When the word is out that your company takes care of its employees and its leaders are on top of that, then the culture attracts people from far and wide to work there. Nicely done, however. Keep up writing.
Hi Max, I think that is what she was trying to say at the end of the article under building a thriving company culture. Yes, infographics is just a small part of a good company, while what you wrote is more important, I see where you’re going with it.
Well said Max. Lots of good stuff here nonetheless.
Nice beginning for leaders in the new year. Thank you Sophia for a spot-on article that tells us where we should be looking to improve our companies and our leadership in 2020.
