Why are Islamists Angry?

By | April 2, 2025

[April 2, 2025]  At Self Reliance Central, a February 15, 2025 article was published that asked a question most of us would like to know the answer to; “why are Islamists angry at the rest of us?”  The short answer is Islamists carry a guilt deep inside them that can never be resolved.  That is the conclusion of Dan Burmawi, Middle East Coordinator (see his LinkedIn page here).

“We know we are not good enough and spend our lives trying to redeem ourselves through good deeds, thinking it will make the guilt disappear.” – Dan Burmawi (@DanBurmawy) February 13, 2025

He says that Christianity offers a way out of their guilt through Christ.  Their salvation is not based on “good deeds” but on Christ himself.  Salvation isn’t earned, it’s given.  In the case of Christianity, Christ did everything for you; he died on the cross.  If Christians feel like they are in need of forgiveness, they can talk with a priest or reverend, talk with church members, or religious leaders.  They know that they will be forgiven.

“Islam doesn’t offer redemption; it weaponizes guilt.” – Dan Burmawi

For the followers of Islam, their sins are held over their heads.  And, The Quran is not a book of peace but a book of threats.  Muslims are bullied into obedience through fear, humiliation, and punishment.  To attempt redemption means they pray, fast, give to charity, go on Hajj, and do what Allah commands.  But this never works.  “I know, I did it,” says Dan Burmawi.  Allah always demands more.

“Kill those who do not worship Allah or obey the Prophet” The Quran (9:29)

According to Burmawi, Allah loves those who die fighting the infidels.  That’s in The Quran, Hadith, and lessons taught to children. This is why Muslims always hesitate to condemn terrorism.  They know that Allah requires it.  A Muslim might not be willing to commit it themselves, but they cannot say it is wrong.

To a fully committed Islamist, killing of the infidels isn’t just justified, it’s joyful.  The killings are an act of saving oneself, obeying Allah, securing your eternity, and finally escaping the crushing weight of guilt.

“Let me tell you why would a Muslim drive his car into a crowd of innocent people. It’s not poverty. It’s not oppression. It’s not even radicalization. It’s the logical outcome of Islamic doctrine itself.” — Dan Burmawi

The world awaits Islam to pull itself out of its depth of despair and violence. But, unfortunately, this may take a few more centuries and the unnecessary death and destruction beyond what it should be. There is no destroying Islam. It will be part of human existence far beyond us. We need to help those who believe in it come into the modern world.

Eagle Eye, I think you nailed the main argument here. Islam is in the depth of an existential crisis from which it – sadly – will continue to flop about and do bad things, far into the future. More will die, die violently, and innocents will be destroyed, minds diseased, crazies encouraged, and religious zealots created. There is nothing worse than a zealot from Islam. Now, I know plenty who were in the Middle East who studied these suicide bombers, who are the epitome of the extremist Islamist. Many of them were retarded or had other serious social and health-realted problems. But, beyond the cannon fodder that Islam demands, there lurks an evil that will be nearly impossible to stamp out. Let’s see how it goes but no positive outlook for Islam the the world as a victim from that “religion.”

I think you both are on track here and that is what Gen. Satterfield has alluded to, sadly for us all. I look forward to more on Islam and maybe this time on how they can pull themselves out of the 5th century.

I’m not so sure that mental illness is at issue here. Islam is not just a religion (a misused term in English) but a way of life, and it requires total commitment. That is why Islam means submission, submission to Islam. There are no halfway measures.

Very interesting take on Islam, a view I’ve not seen before. There are many explanations of why those who adhere to Islam are so violent, and this one is probably the best.

Most Muslims abhor terrorism. Pew Research reported in 2015: “Muslims mostly say that suicide bombings and other forms of violence against civilians in the name of Islam are rarely or never justified, including 92% in Indonesia and 91% in Iraq. In the United States, a 2011 survey found that 86% of Muslims say such tactics are rarely or never justified. An additional 7% say suicide bombings are sometimes justified and 1% say they are often justified.” However, significant Muslim majorities in other countries think terrorism is justified. Pew found that “in a few countries, a quarter or more of Muslims say these acts of violence are at least sometimes justified, including 40% in the Palestinian territories, 39% in Afghanistan, 29% in Egypt, and 26% in Bangladesh.”

Maybe some truth here but Islam is based on the same ideas and the core is the killing of non-believers.

There is not much room for a kind interpretation of this verse in the Quran. Nor for The Quran at all, esp. given the violence that stems directly from its teachings. For those who study religion, Islam stands out as the most aggressive, the most violent, the most destructive against everyone and destroys everything that is not brought into the Islamic fold. Everyone dies who does not convert and this is, IMHO, the reason this author is so critical of Islam. I understand that there are a variety of sects within Islam but that makes little difference because the are all based on the same religious Quran texts.

Qassim, I assume you have some ex with Islam. While there are some positive attributes to Islam – this should be obvious – the negatives far outweigh the positives.

This is exactly why even the smartest of Western intellectuals get Islam wrong. Islam is NOT a religion of peace but of guilt and terror. It works in a tribal primitive society and is not fit for the modern world. That is why there is no democratic modern society that is Islamic.

Truer words have never been written. Islam is not the way because it is the religion of conquerors, not saviors. If you want to live a good life, Islam is not the way. Christianity is the only way to peace and prosperity. Don’t be fooled. I know I will be criticized for my view, but it is about time folks stood up with other Christians and admitted that Islam is NOT a religion of peace.
